Allergic Reaction Vs. Eczema Flare-Up: How can I tell the difference

There are several certainties that you develop a skin infection. However, many people ignore it as an allergic reaction, insect bite or fungal infection as Eczema, but none of them is the same. In that case, we’ll disclose some information so it will be easier for you to tell the difference and start the treatment accordingly.

Let's dive right in!

What is Eczema?

Eczema is a skin condition commonly found in infants or adults where the skin gets infected with itchy red bumps. Eczema is caused by a genetic transmittal, stress, immune system reaction, or external reactions. The eczema treatment has not been found yet, but you can apply anti-allergy ointments to treat it.

What is Allergic Reaction?

Allergic reaction is usually caused by external chemical substances that your immune system can not handle or is weak to fight. These allergic reactions can appear on the skin or cause reactions internally. An allergic reaction can also occur on the skin’s surface with red bumps or rashes. However, you can treat an allergic reaction with anti-allergic medications like EpiPen.

Eczema vs Allergic Reaction

Allergic reaction is induced with substances of foods, and a person with a food allergy catches the response within minutes or after four hours of consuming. However, eczema does not include reactions from food. It can occur anytime with anything.

You can be infected with eczema rashes on specific body areas like ankles, backs, cheeks, necks. But allergic reactions like hives can appear all over your body. In contrast, eczema feels like big dry patches similar to ringworm.

Moreover, allergic reactions on the skin are associated with other symptoms like vomiting, headache, and itching all over the body. In comparison, eczema does not cause itching anywhere else except for the infected area.

Treatment

Allergic reactions need immediate treatment after the reaction appears, mainly with epipen. However, eczema does not require urgent treatment, and it can be cured with ointments and home remedies.
